Milonga and Vals each have their own set of unique characteristics that set them apart and make them a lovely complement to the tango music. And traditionally every third tanda is either Milonga or Vals, so until you feel comfortable dancing these subgenres of tango, you will miss out on 33% of the night at any Tango event! Join this seminar to do a deep dive on the musicality and cadencia of both genres, and learn new sequences that you can use on the dance floor.
What we will work on:
- Understanding the rhythm of vals & milonga
- 4 different types of "double time":
- Syncopation, traspié, suspension and tuplets
- Using the embrace and axis to create different weight transfers
- Different rebotes for different music
- Cadenas and repeated steps for continuous movement
- Circular sequences for vals and milonga
- How to improvise in style with the music
- Our favourite steps and tricks for each style
Level: Intermediate/Advanced
We always strive to adapt the level of these classes on an individual basis, to simplify movements and focus on learning the right technique for less experienced dancers, and to challenge more experienced dancers with refining their technique and mastery of each movement. To benefit from this seminar you should feel comfortable in both parallel and cross systems, and with leading/following forward and backward ochos.
